Notes
Born 3 December 1894 in Chapel-en-le-Frith (not Whaley Bridge as in the census record), the son of Mr and Mrs S Mycock, of 111, Macclesfield Road, Whaley Bridge, Stockport. In 1911 he was a leather worker and the date of his joining the railway is not known. Family lore and local newspaper accounts have him working as a booking clerk but the Midland's records state him to have been a porter. Before the war Mycock had been a private with the Chapel-en-le-Frith Territorials and on the outbreak of war was immediately mobilized. He was sent to France in February 1915 and by May had attained the rank of sergeant. His gallantry in action earned him the Military Medal and he was sent home to train for a commission. After successfully passing through the OTC at Cambridge University he was gazetted to the 2/6th Sherwood Foresters. Six months later he was fatally wounded in action. He was a Sunday school teacher and according to a local newspaper 'one of the most popular and highly esteemed young men in the district'.
