Notes

In the obituary given in the December 1915 issue of the London and North Western Railway Gazette, it was said that his death was greatly avenged. In a successful attack, he was the first out of the trench and was apparently killed just 50 yards forward of it. The leading officer was very fond of Welch, as he details all this in a letter from the front to Mrs Welch.
