Notes

Aged 33, Maguire held degrees of B.A. and B.E. of Dublin University. Before he enlisted, he worked at Bishop Auckland as a draughtsman. Maguire carried out his regimental duties, but was said to have displayed great gallantry in dressing the wounded of his own and other units, which saw him recommended for the Victoria Cross by his Commanding Officer.
