Notes

Age 54, had been in NER service for 25 years. Was a member of the National Reserve, having served in the old Volunteer Force. Enlisted in the West Yorks Regiment and was employed as a warder at detention camps in various places in England. Transferred to the 2/5th Battalion and after an operation for appendicitis to the 26th Provisional Battalion at Louth. He had only been there a week when he contracted pneumonia and died. Buried at York on 5 April 1916 with full military honours.
