Aged 21, Jeffreys joined the GER in October 1910, as a signal-box lad at Stratford (Central). He was 'promoted to porter at the Low Level station' then transferred 'to Stratford Market in December, 1914'. He enlisted in March 1916. He died while a prisoner of war.
