Notes

Age 30, son of James Brack Huntley and Elizabeth Huntley of 27 Grafton Road, Whitley Bay. Killed in action. NER Magazine gives rank as Lieutenant. Joined the NER on 4 August 1902 as a clerk in the Chief Engineer's Office, Newcastle. Three years later appointed draughtsman. In October 1913 transferred to a similar post in the District Engineer's Office. In Septemebr 1914 enlisted in the 16th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Quickly promoted to sergeant and in March 1915 obtained a commission. In May 1916 promoted to rank of Lieutenant and sent abroad. Due to the illness of his Captain he took charge of his company and was in command at the time of his death.
