Notes

23 foster son of Michael & Agnes Giloran of 1 Bede Crescent, Holy Cross, Willington Quay, Northumberland. (Probably, born North Shields, enlisted Wallsend).
Private J. W. Collins joined the N.E.R. service on December 10, 1910, as a lamp lad at South Dock,
and was made assistant signalman on September 19, 1913. Being already a member of the Territorials,
he was called up when war broke out, and volunteered for foreign service. He went to France with his regiment on April 19, 1915.
(One of three members
of the 7th Durham Light Infantry (T.) who had been missing since May 24, 1915. The Officer Commanding and other members of the regiment who returned to England, held out little hope of their turning up. On May 24 (Whit Monday) the
Germans made use of poisonous gas and various battalions of Northern Territorials who had recently
reached France, were hurried to the front and suffered severely.)
