Age 21, husband of Alice Tidgeon (formerly Clark) of 21 Darlington Terrace, West Hartlepool. Joined the NER on 12 May 1914 and enlisted on 3 September 1914. He was transferred from the Durham Light Infantry to HMS Natal. He lost his life when his ship blew up in Cromarty Firth, probably when cordite in the magazines ignited. The NER Magazine incorrectly gives the location as Sheerness Harbour.
