Age 19, the son of Isaac and Lucy Clara Chilvers of Cotton, Stowmarket, Suffolk. He joined the GER in February 1915, and enlisted in the East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) in April 1917. He was later transferred to the East Surrey Regiment with whom he was serving when killed in action.
