Age 23, entered GER service in April 1913. A member of the Essex Territorial Force he was called up at the outbreak of war and served in the Dardanelles campaign from July 1915. He is reported to have stayed with a wounded comrade for several hours before he could be evacuated under fire to an ambulance station. Killed in action.
