Notes

Aged 27, he was described as being of a bright and cheerful disposition. He joined the North Eastern Railway in June 1910, working at West Hartlepool until he enlisted withe Gordon Highlanders. Banks was later transferred to the Highland Light Infantry and was soon promoted. Banks was injured and after being discharged from hospital in July 1916, he was sent back to the front. He was killed in action.
