Previously wounded as noted in the November 1915 issue of the London and North Western Railway Gazette, which was changed to "Died of Wounds" in the December 1915 issue of the same journal. In the January 1916 issue of LNWR Gazette, it is noted that in the Roll of Honour he is named 'Thomas John Artherton Williams' as that was his name he went by in the army. He was said to be very popular with his mates in the shed, and that his death was keenly felt by them.
